TL;DR

  • Our seven-day study covered 216,325 domains. 7,612 (3.52%) matched at least one of five selected web push identities. This is public detection research, not a census of installed apps.
  • 3,616 of 7,596 PushOwl-matched domains (47.6%) also matched Klaviyo, Mailchimp or Omnisend. Check how existing channels work together before adding or replacing a platform.
  • Current listed paid entry plans include Firepush at $13/month, Hextom at $15/month and Brevo PushOwl at $19/month. Their free allowances and automation gates differ.
  • iPhone web push requires an eligible Home Screen web app and notification permission. A normal mobile visit is not enough.

Shopify web push apps let a store send browser notifications to shoppers who subscribe. The useful comparison starts with the audience you can reach, the event you need to trigger and the tools already handling that event.

We compared current app listings with StoreInspect's recent storefront research. The data shows substantial overlap with email platforms. It also exposes a counting trap: two PushOwl detector labels appeared on the same domains. A long app list or a large raw count cannot settle which tool belongs in your retention program.

How We Collected This Data

On October 17, 2026, we selected each stored domain's most recent full-store scan that completed successfully in a fixed seven-day window: October 10 at 02:00 Oslo through October 17 at 02:00 Oslo, excluding the end. Scans limited to change monitoring were excluded, as were records currently marked confirmed dead and scans without a valid app list.

The result contained 216,325 domains, including 21,993 successful scans with no recorded app detections. Those empty lists remained in the denominator. Domains are not deduplicated into brands or independently verified trading businesses.

We used explicit name and identifier rules for PushOwl, OneSignal, Firepush, Webpushr and Notifadz. Each domain counted once per provider and once in the combined group. These rules do not cover every push app, native mobile app, custom integration or broader marketing platform that can send push messages.

Public scanning can encounter consent restrictions, pages without the relevant code, unrecognized implementations, leftover scripts and false matches. All selected scans lacked a recorded detector version, so we cannot establish a version-controlled adoption trend. We retained the query, extraction timestamp, raw labels and denominators with the research.

Traffic tiers are current stored estimates, not measured orders, revenue, subscriber counts or app billing. App plans, browser documentation and the public storefront example below were checked on October 17, 2026. We did not install these apps, subscribe to a merchant's notifications or measure delivery and conversion performance.

Shopify Web Push Apps in the Recent Scan Sample

Selected provider identityDistinct matched domains
PushOwl7,596
OneSignal13
Webpushr2
Notifadz1
Firepush0
Any selected identity7,612

The PushOwl result includes two observed labels: PushOwl on 7,596 domains and PushOwl Web Push Notifications on 284. All 284 also had the first label. Adding the raw rows would produce 7,880, overstating the distinct-domain count by 284.

The large difference between providers reflects this selected sample and uneven signature coverage. It does not establish Shopify-wide market share or product quality. Firepush's zero means the rule returned no match here; its current App Store listing remains available. Hextom is compared below using its publisher listing, outside these five measured identities.

How the matches differ by estimated traffic

Estimated monthly visitsDomains in sampleDomains with a selected push signalMatch rate
Under 50K209,9427,0693.37%
50K–200K4,9644088.22%
200K–1M1,3831349.69%
1M+3612.78%

The 50K–200K and 200K–1M groups had higher match rates than the under-50K group. The 1M+ group contains only 36 domains and cannot support an enterprise benchmark. These differences do not show that push caused traffic growth or becomes profitable at a traffic threshold.

Nearly half of PushOwl matches also had a selected email signal

Companion platformPushOwl-matched domainsShare of 7,596 PushOwl matches
Klaviyo2,63434.7%
Mailchimp94012.4%
Omnisend4245.6%
Any of these three, deduplicated3,61647.6%

The platform rows overlap. They cannot be added to count distinct stores. Nor does a script establish which platform sends email, whether automation is enabled or whether two tools share subscribers.

For an agency, this is a concrete integration question: who owns the cart-recovery sequence, how does a purchase stop later messages, and how are email, SMS and push frequency coordinated? Our email platform guide and SMS comparison cover the adjacent decisions.

Shopify Web Push Apps: Current Plans to Compare

The following USD monthly listing prices were checked October 17, 2026. This is a documented-plan comparison of three Shopify apps, not a hands-on ranking. Notification volume, automation access and other channels can change the total bill.

AppListed free allowanceListed paid entryRequirement to check
Brevo PushOwl500 web push notifications/month; unlimited subscribersPlus: $19/month with 10,000 web push notifications/monthWhether the required recovery and segmentation features are on the chosen plan
Firepush500 web pushes included; unlimited subscribersBasic: $13/month with 10,000 web pushesThe renewal basis of the free allowance and charges for any SMS use
Hextom: WhatsApp, SMS & Push1,000 monthly web push messages; unlimited subscribersBusiness: $15/month, listing 10,000 monthly web push messagesSending-volume tiers, recovery features and separate SMS/WhatsApp costs

PushOwl: check the whole messaging workflow

Brevo PushOwl's current listing includes email, web push and SMS. Describing it as a push-only product would miss capabilities that matter when comparing an existing stack.

The $19 Plus listing includes abandoned-cart recovery, while browse-abandonment and custom automation/segmentation appear in the $79 Power bundle. Select the plan that covers the actual flow. A free back-in-stock reminder does not establish that every recovery automation is free.

Firepush: clarify the free allowance before budgeting

Firepush lists push and SMS campaigns, cart recovery and price-drop notifications. Its free plan says 500 web pushes are included, but the displayed free-plan wording does not specify a monthly reset. Confirm that point with the publisher instead of assuming 500 fresh sends every month.

The Basic listing includes 10,000 pushes at $13/month; Pro lists 25,000 at $49/month. Unlimited subscribers describes list capacity, not unlimited sending.

Hextom: compare channel costs and recovery access

Hextom combines web push, SMS and WhatsApp. Its free plan includes monthly push messages and back-in-stock/price-drop automation; the Business listing adds cart, checkout and browser recovery.

Business starts at $15/month, with displayed examples of $30 for 20,000 web pushes and $45 for 30,000. The signup message credits are separate from an unlimited messaging allowance. Check the full tier and channel charges for the volume you expect.

For a simple planning example, sending four campaigns to 2,000 eligible subscribers requires 8,000 notification attempts, before automated flows. This is a hypothetical sending budget, not a delivery forecast. Ask how the vendor counts sends, failures and billable usage.

A Public Storefront Check: 100% PURE

Our successful scan of 100percentpure.com on October 16 recorded PushOwl and Klaviyo signals. We revisited the 100% PURE storefront on October 17, 2026 to check the public evidence.

The rendered page included Shopify extension assets named pushowl-shopify.js and pushowl-shopify-main.js. It also exposed separate email and SMS signup fields, and an email-subscription popup appeared during the visit. We did not observe a push-subscription prompt in that browsing state.

That check confirms public PushOwl code alongside visible email/SMS capture surfaces. It does not identify the sender behind those forms, prove push messages are currently being sent or reveal the merchant's subscriber list and results. Absence of a prompt in one visit also cannot establish that opt-in is disabled.

Use the same distinction when researching a prospect: record the dated app signal, inspect the relevant customer journey, then ask about the enabled workflow. A screenshot of a signup form is not a measurement of channel performance.

Browser Reach Changes the Business Case

Web push reaches a browser subscription. A native mobile app has a different installation and notification journey. Avoid treating every mobile-app builder as an interchangeable web push tool.

For iOS and iPadOS, WebKit documents support from version 16.4 for Home Screen web apps. The shopper adds the site to the Home Screen, opens the web app and grants notification permission following a direct interaction. PushOwl's iOS instructions describe that sequence for its product.

PushOwl also documents limitations in private browsing and social-media in-app browsers. Test your actual entry paths and devices. A campaign landing inside Instagram's browser can have a different subscription opportunity from a desktop visit.

Before estimating revenue, measure eligible visitors, prompt exposure, subscriptions, successful delivery and subsequent purchases separately. Total website traffic is a poor substitute for a reachable push audience.

Choose a Workflow and Test Its Result

Start with one merchant requirement, such as a back-in-stock alert or cart reminder. If the main need is stock-specific capture and variant handling, also compare dedicated back-in-stock apps.

  1. Map the existing flow. Identify the current sender, trigger, purchase suppression, consent record and message timing across channels.
  2. Check reach on real devices. Walk through the prompt, permission, subscription and unsubscribe experience on the browser paths customers actually use.
  3. Verify events in a merchant-authorized test environment. Check that the intended event triggers the message and a purchase or stock change stops inappropriate follow-ups. Keep customer-facing tests separate from live shoppers.
  4. Measure incremental value. Use a suitable holdout where feasible, compare contribution after messaging and operating costs, and inspect blocks/unsubscribes. Vendor-attributed revenue alone does not measure the sales that would have happened anyway.

Agencies and app founders can use dated technology filters in StoreInspect to select accounts for this research. Our 3,616-domain PushOwl-plus-email group gives a specific reason to investigate channel coordination. It does not establish duplicate bills, broken automation or willingness to switch. Confirm the need and responsible person before outreach.

FAQ

Which Shopify web push apps have a free plan?

The current listings show free allowances for PushOwl, Firepush and Hextom. PushOwl specifies 500 notifications per month and Hextom 1,000 monthly messages. Firepush lists 500 included pushes without specifying a monthly reset in the displayed free-plan text. Check automation gates as well as send limits.

Do Shopify web push notifications work on iPhones?

Supported Home Screen web apps can receive web push on iOS 16.4 and later after the user grants permission. An ordinary Safari visit alone does not complete that journey. Check the vendor's setup instructions and test the current device and OS.

Does a missing push-app detection mean a store sends no push?

No. Our finite rules miss other providers, custom integrations, some page and consent states, and native mobile-app notifications. The unmatched share is not a count of stores needing push services.

Should PushOwl replace an existing email platform?

Decide from the required workflows, event data, operating cost and migration constraints. Our study found selected email signatures on 47.6% of PushOwl-matched domains, but public co-detection does not reveal how merchants use those tools. Inspect the actual configuration before recommending consolidation.
