Best Shopify form builder apps data study

TL;DR: Key Findings From 765,762 Shopify Stores

  • 17,873 Shopify stores use a detectable form builder app. That is 2.33% of the app-record dataset we analyzed on June 30, 2026.
  • Powerful Contact Form is the largest visible signal with 10,763 detected stores, and its current App Store path is Powerful Contact Form Builder.
  • Hulk Form Builder is the next strongest current app shortlist among named storefront-visible form builders, with 4,352 detected stores.
  • Shopify Forms is important, but hard to count from storefront app names. It can be the right free native choice for simple lead capture, but it may not leave a clean StoreInspect app-name signal.
  • Adoption rises with store maturity. Detectable form-builder adoption is 1.087% under 50K traffic, 4.344% in the 50K to 200K tier, and 7.046% in the 200K to 1M tier.
  • Form-builder stores are more mature than the baseline. They average 9.5 apps, 9.7 pixels, and a 93.1 lead score, compared with 5.5 apps, 6.6 pixels, and 77.4 for stores without a detected form builder.
  • The biggest opportunity is missing forms on serious stores. We found 226,448 contactable 50K+ stores with no detected form builder, including 141,543 with 100+ products.

Why Form Builder Apps Matter

Every Shopify store has some version of a contact problem.

Tiny stores need a way for shoppers to ask basic questions. Growing stores need quote forms, file uploads, dealer applications, wholesale requests, event registrations, warranty requests, product customization intake, return requests, and support routing.

The "best Shopify form builder apps" question should start with workflow fit rather than the form editor alone.

For a basic email signup or contact page, native Shopify Forms may be enough. For quote requests and file uploads, broader form builders such as Powerful Contact Form Builder or Hulk Form Builder can fit better. For embedded surveys, applications, and off-platform forms, Jotform or POWR may be part of the stack.

For adjacent categories, compare this with our studies on product options apps, page builder apps, wholesale apps, customer support apps, email marketing apps, popup apps, and quiz apps. Forms sit between all of them.

How We Collected This Data

StoreInspect detects Shopify technology from public storefront data, including app names, script signatures, theme signals, tracking pixels, and other visible commerce signals. For this study, we used stores.app_names, the same current app-record surface used by StoreInspect app filters and public app pages.

We analyzed 765,762 Shopify stores with app records on June 30, 2026. The tracked form-builder cluster included Powerful Contact Form, Hulk Form Builder, HulkApps Form Builder, Globo Form Builder, Jotform, Nerdy Form Builder, Contact Form Ultimate, Upform, POWR Form Builder, Powr Form Builder, and several long-tail form-builder names.

We can also compare category, traffic tier, Shopify Plus signal, theme type, app count, pixel count, product count, contact availability, and adjacent stack signals such as Klaviyo, Omnisend, Judge.me, Yotpo Reviews, Loox, PageFly, Gorgias, and Zendesk.

We cannot fully detect Shopify Forms installs that leave no public app-name signal, theme-native Liquid forms, custom private forms, unrecognized Typeform or CRM embeds, or whether a form is active and converting.

So read this as a study of StoreInspect-visible form builder app adoption, not a complete census of every Shopify store that has any contact form.

Quick Recommendation Table

Short version: start with Shopify Forms for simple native lead capture, test Powerful Contact Form Builder or Hulk for complex form logic, use Jotform or POWR for embedded widgets, and treat Globo Form Builder as a separate StoreInspect-visible app-name signal rather than a separately verified App Store pick.

Read this as a data-led shortlist that separates visible StoreInspect adoption from App Store positioning, current pricing, and merchant fit.

Form Builder App Market Share

Among the 17,873 stores with a detectable form builder app, the visible category is concentrated in three names.

App groupKindStoresShare of form-builder stores50K+ storesContactable stores
Powerful Contact FormContact form10,76360.2%7,5748,671

UpformForm builder370.2%2628
POWR Form BuilderEmbedded form builder110.1%58
Long-tail form buildersMixed140.1%610

Powerful Contact Form is the largest visible app-name signal by a wide margin, and the current Shopify App Store path we verified is Powerful Contact Form Builder. That makes it both a current buyer shortlist and a useful audit signal for stores that already expose this app name.

Hulk Form Builder is the next current App Store candidate in this dataset. The separate Globo Form Builder row is still useful, but we treat it as a StoreInspect app-name signal rather than a separately verified current App Store recommendation.

Jotform and POWR are different. They often behave like embedded widgets or external form systems. That can be useful when the business already runs operations in those tools, but it can also mean the form workflow is less native to Shopify's customer, order, and marketing data.

Shopify Forms vs Third-Party Form Builders

Shopify Forms deserves its own caveat because it is both important and hard to measure with the same method.

For a simple form, Shopify's native app is usually the first thing to test. It is close to the platform, it can work well for lead capture, and it avoids adding another large third-party script just to collect an email address or basic customer details.

Native covers the baseline, but richer form workflows still need more.

Use a third-party form builder when the merchant needs:

  • quote requests with many custom fields
  • file uploads for print, personalization, warranty, or support
  • conditional logic that changes based on prior answers
  • wholesale applications, dealer applications, or B2B approval workflows
  • multi-step intake forms
  • event registration, product consultation, or booking inquiry forms
  • custom autoresponders, routing rules, tagging, or CRM integrations
  • forms that need to appear in landing pages, product pages, modals, and custom page templates

The same logic shows up in other Shopify categories. Native features cover the baseline. Apps appear when the workflow becomes specific. That is true for product options apps, store locator apps, returns apps, review apps, and size chart apps.

Adoption by Traffic Tier

Form-builder adoption rises sharply as stores grow.

200K to 1M13,9519837.046%89511,727
1M+12686.349%8113

The adoption curve is the main story. Only 1.087% of under-50K stores show a detectable form builder, but adoption reaches 7.046% in the 200K to 1M tier.

That fits the economics. A tiny store can handle weird requests manually. A scaling store needs better routing, cleaner qualification, and less inbox chaos. Once traffic increases, every vague "contact us" form creates operational drag. The store needs to know whether the shopper is asking for support, wholesale access, custom manufacturing, a bulk quote, a partnership, a return, or an order issue.

For qualification work, combine this with traffic and budget signals from Shopify store benchmarks, Shopify stores with budget, Shopify lead scoring, and Shopify app ICP targeting.

Adoption by Catalog Size

Catalog depth also increases adoption, though the curve is less steep than traffic.

1,000+ products87,4423,0923.536%2,85848,975
Unknown12,3242842.304%186884

Stores with 1,000+ products are about 2.1x more likely to show a form builder than stores with under 25 products. That makes sense. More products usually means more edge cases: compatibility questions, replacement parts, custom configurations, B2B requests, stockist questions, warranty claims, and quote requests.

But product count alone is not enough. A 40-product industrial parts store can have a bigger form need than a 2,000-SKU apparel catalog with straightforward purchasing. The better filter is category plus product count plus traffic plus existing app stack.

If the form is mostly collecting product customization data, compare form builders with the product options app category. If the merchant needs a guided selling flow rather than a static intake form, compare quiz apps. If the issue is support routing after purchase, compare customer support apps.

Top Categories for Form Builders

Fashion has the most form-builder stores by raw count, but Hardware & Tools, Office & Packaging, Events & Tickets, Services, Automotive, and Electronics show higher adoption.

Form builders over-index when the purchase needs more than a clean add-to-cart transaction. Hardware, packaging, automotive, electronics, services, events, and B2B-heavy categories need more intake, routing, compatibility checks, and quote context.

For vertical context, pair this with our studies on fashion store apps, home store apps, beauty store apps, food store apps, jewelry store apps, and the Shopify B2B opportunity map.

Form-Builder Stores Are More Mature

The merchant profile is the stronger signal than install count.

Form-builder stores are more likely to have paid or custom themes, 50K+ traffic, Shopify Plus signals, larger catalogs, and deeper adjacent app stacks.

That makes sense. A merchant does not usually add a form builder because the store is simple. They add it because the workflow has become specific: wholesale request, file upload, custom product intake, consultation request, support routing, product inquiry, or B2B approval.

The adjacent stack confirms it.

The email and reviews pairings are especially important. A form is rarely just a page element. It is a data handoff. If the store already runs Klaviyo, Omnisend, Judge.me, Yotpo Reviews, Loox, PageFly, Shogun, or Gorgias, the form should probably feed a better workflow than a generic inbox.

That is also where form builders create service opportunities. Agencies can clean up routing, tag leads, connect forms to lifecycle flows, replace slow widgets, or turn vague contact pages into qualified intake.

Which Form Builder Should You Choose?

Use the workflow first, then choose the app.

Choose Shopify Forms for simple native lead capture

Start with Shopify Forms when the need is basic: email signup, simple customer detail capture, Shopify-native customer fields, and low-complexity lead capture.

The benefit is simplicity. The risk is outgrowing it. If the merchant needs file uploads, quote workflows, conditional logic, or complex routing, a dedicated form builder may be easier to manage.

Choose Powerful Contact Form Builder for broad form workflows

Powerful Contact Form is the largest visible StoreInspect signal, and the current App Store path we verified is Powerful Contact Form Builder. It belongs on the shortlist when the merchant needs contact forms, quote requests, product inquiries, or custom-form intake.

Existing installs still need audit before migration. Check whether submissions route correctly, spam is controlled, the design matches the current theme, and the workflow should stay in a form app or move into native Shopify Forms, a helpdesk, or a CRM.

Choose Hulk Form Builder for flexible app-based forms

Hulk Form Builder is the strongest current shortlist from the visible adoption data. We found 4,352 stores using the Hulk Form Builder group, including 3,266 with 50K+ traffic and 3,588 with at least one contact.

It fits stores that need more than a contact box: quote forms, custom fields, surveys, wholesale applications, support routing, product inquiry forms, and file-upload workflows. If the form sits on product pages, landing pages, or B2B pages, test theme compatibility and page speed before rolling it across the whole store.

Treat Globo Form Builder as a visible app-name signal

We found 3,505 stores with the Globo Form Builder app name, including 2,451 with 50K+ traffic.

Use that row for audits, migration research, and competitive analysis. Before recommending it as a separate current app choice, verify the merchant-facing vendor path and support status.

Use Jotform when the business already runs forms outside Shopify

Jotform appears on 239 stores in this dataset. It can make sense when the business already uses Jotform for applications, surveys, event registration, service intake, or internal routing. If submissions need to become Shopify customer tags, email segments, quote requests, support tickets, or order-context records, verify the handoff before committing.

Use POWR when a widget approach is enough

POWR is a multi-widget platform, and POWR Form Builder appears as a small specific form-builder signal in our current app-name data. It can fit stores already using POWR widgets or lightweight embedded forms, but test page speed, mobile layout, styling, and data routing.

Prospecting: Where the Form Gaps Are

For agencies, app founders, and B2B teams, the useful question is not "which form app is biggest?" It is "which stores have enough complexity to need better intake, but no detected form builder?"

These were the largest prospecting pools in the June 30 dataset:

Segment without a detected form builderStoresPlus storesPaid/custom themesAvg appsAvg pixelsAvg lead score

Booking/rental app, 50K+, contactable, no form builder1,3428198310.410.699.4

Do not lead with "you need a form builder." Lead with the workflow: custom requests, wholesale qualification, paid landing-page leads, booking questions, file uploads, or pre-purchase inbox volume.

That is the same prospecting logic we use in Shopify CRO agency leads, how to find Shopify stores by app, Shopify app market share, Shopify app bloat, Shopify app combinations, and Shopify cold outreach personalization.

Buying Checklist

Before installing or replacing a Shopify form builder, test form purpose, field depth, data destination, theme behavior, spam control, page speed, team ownership, and migration risk. A store with Klaviyo, Yotpo Reviews, PageFly, Gorgias, and several pixels does not need another slow script unless the form creates real operational value.

If the merchant is already struggling with heavy app stacks, read Shopify app bloat before adding another storefront widget.

FAQ

What is the best Shopify form builder app?

For simple native lead capture, start with Shopify Forms. For richer custom forms, Powerful Contact Form Builder and Hulk Form Builder are the clearest current shortlists in our visible adoption data. For existing embedded form operations, Jotform or POWR can fit.

Why is Shopify Forms not counted in the 17,873 stores?

This study uses StoreInspect-visible app-name records from public storefront data. Shopify Forms can be native or admin-driven and may not leave a clean public app-name signal. That means Shopify Forms can be a strong merchant option even though it is not cleanly represented in this dataset.

It is the largest visible signal in our StoreInspect app-name data, with 10,763 detected stores. The current App Store path we verified is Powerful Contact Form Builder, but existing installs should still be audited for routing, spam control, theme fit, and support status before migration.

Do form builder apps help conversion?

They can, but only when the form removes friction from a real workflow. A quote form, file-upload intake, wholesale application, or product inquiry form can improve qualification and reduce support load. A generic contact form buried in the footer usually will not move conversion by itself.

Should agencies target stores without form builder apps?

Yes, but only with context. The best prospects are not tiny stores with no contact page. They are contactable stores with 50K+ traffic, paid or custom themes, larger catalogs, page builders, product options apps, wholesale apps, or booking/rental workflows. We found 226,448 contactable 50K+ stores with no detected form builder.

Bottom Line

The best Shopify form builder app depends on the workflow:

  • use Shopify Forms for simple native lead capture
  • test Powerful Contact Form Builder or Hulk Form Builder for advanced custom forms
  • use Jotform or POWR when the business already wants an embedded widget workflow
  • treat Globo Form Builder as a visible app-name signal unless the current vendor path is verified

Only 2.33% of app-record stores show a detectable form builder, but adoption rises sharply with traffic, catalog size, and store maturity. That makes form builders useful as merchant intake tools and prospecting signals for teams selling into operationally complex stores.

If you want to find these stores directly, start with StoreInspect's Shopify apps database, Shopify app marketplace, Shopify stores list, and the workflow guides on finding Shopify stores by app and building Shopify lead lists.
