Best Shopify Gift Card Apps: Key Findings From 754,534 Stores

  • Only 1,936 stores use a detectable gift-card or store-credit app. That is 0.26% of the 754,534 current Shopify stores in our app-record dataset.
  • The broader gifting stack is bigger, but still narrow. We found 8,314 stores with a detectable gift card, store credit, gift wrap, gift-option, or gift-with-purchase app, equal to 1.10% of stores.
  • Rise.ai is the most detected true gift-card or store-credit app with 1,593 stores, followed by Gift Card Pro with 183 and Go Gift Cards with 161.
  • EasyGift is the biggest gift-related signal at 4,576 stores, but it is not a gift-card app. It is mainly for gift-with-purchase and auto-add gift promotions.
  • Giftship leads the gift-options workflow with 1,291 stores, mostly for gift messages, gift wrap, multi-address shipping, and box-builder use cases.

Why Gift Card App Lists Need Better Data

Most "best Shopify gift card apps" pages start from the Shopify App Store gift card category, copy vendor descriptions, and rank tools by ratings or affiliate payout. If you are comparing Shopify gift card apps or Shopify gifting apps, that is not enough.

That misses the harder question: what are merchants actually installing?

It also blurs three different jobs:

  • selling digital or physical gift cards
  • issuing store credit, refunds, cashback, and wallet balances
  • adding gifting UX, such as gift messages, gift wrap, multi-address shipping, registries, or free gifts with purchase

Shopify already has native gift cards. Shopify's own Help Center says merchants can create and sell gift card products, and gift cards are available on all Shopify subscription plans. How We Collected This Data

StoreInspect detects Shopify apps from public storefront data, including app names, script signatures, storefront markers, theme signals, tracking pixels, and other visible commerce signals. For this study, we used stores.app_names, the same current app-record surface used by StoreInspect app filters and public app pages. Confirmed-dead stores were excluded.

"Gift app" adoption is mostly not gift cards. Among the 8,314 gift-stack stores, 5,270 have gift-with-purchase tooling, while 1,936 show a true gift-card or store-credit app.

That makes sense. Native Shopify gift cards cover the basic job for many merchants. A third-party gift-card app has to justify itself with more advanced value: loyalty credit, refund credit, bulk corporate cards, scheduled delivery, custom balance pages, or better post-purchase messaging.
